One Year of Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine: The Future of “The Common European House”?


Arrangementsbeskrivelse

Due to the security regulations in the Parliament registration is  mandatory. Registration fee is DDK 50,- (coffee/tea and cake will be served) Registration not later than Tuesday 21th of February at “nemtilmeld”:  https://helsinki-komiteen.nemtilmeld.dk/  . Arrival not later than 12:30 for security control and registration.

 Description

This conference is held at the anniversary at the Russian invasion of Ukraine of February 24, 2022. It will look at the background for the war, probable outcomes, possibilities for peace, and future consequences of the war for both countries, for the general stability in Greater Europe, and for the international order аs a whole.

The language of the conference will be English.

Programme 

13:00-13:05  Martin Lidegaard, MP, Social Liberal Party, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Chairman of the Foreign Policy Board in the Danish Parliament, our host in the Parliament: Welcome on behalf of the Danish Parliament. 

 

13:05-13:10  Karsten Fledelius, Moderator, Former chairperson of The Danish-Russian Association and The Danish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights: Welcome on behalf of the organizers.

13:10-13:30  Martin Lidegaard: What can Denmark, EU and NATO do for supporting Ukraine during the war? What can we do to help Ukraine with rebuilding the country and supporting democracy in Ukraine? How can we contribute to making Russia a peaceful, democratic country?

13:30-13:55  Karsten Fledelius: The Role of  UN and of Regional Organizations (OSCE, Council of Europe) in the Reconstruction and Safeguarding of European Security and Cooperation.  

13.55-14:15  Julia Osmolovska, director of the Kyiv Office of GLOBSEC, chairperson of  Transatlantic Dialogue Center, Kyiv: The military capabilities and plans of Ukraine, possible scenarios for the ending of the war, the political future of Ukraine. 

14:15-14:35  Claus Mathiesen, Cand.mag., Associate professor at the Danish Defence Academy, former defence attache in Ukraine: The military capabilities of Ukraine, possible outcomes of the war, the possibilities of Ukraine for EU and NATO membership.

 14:35-14:55  Discussion and Q&A.

14:55-15:25  Break, coffee/tea and cake will be served.

15:25-15:45  Olena Prokopenko, Foreign policy expert, Program Manager for Eastern Neighborhood at The European Endowment for Democracy, Co-Chair of the Transatlantic Task Force on Ukraine: Ukraine's popular mobilization, Ukraine’s historical opposition to Russia, the Ukrainian peoples wishes for the end of the war and for Ukraine after the war.

15:45-16:05  Søren Liborius, Danish diplomat, Chief Advisor at The European External Action Service, former Deputy Chief of Mission at the Danish Embassy in Moscow: The reasons for Russia’s  claims for  attacking Ukraine and the consequences of the war for the political and economic future of Russia.

16:05-16:25  Maria Logan, Open Russia Foundation, Trustee to the Future of Russia Foundation and the Khodorkovsky Foundation: Putin's misjudgment of the will of Ukraine to resist, how can the war be brought to an end? Will there be a new democratic Russia after the war? How can the Russian diaspora contribute to that?

16:25-16:45  Elena Rusakova, former chairperson of the Сouncil of municipal deputies, member of the “Memorial” Human Rights Centre, Moscow: Popular resistance in Russia against the war, would it be possible for the Russian civil society to build a new democratic and peaceful Russia after the war.

16:45-17:05  Discussion and Q&A.

17:05-17:15  Karsten Fledelius:  Conclusions and final remarks.

 

The Conference is organised by The Danish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights and The Danish-Russian Association in cooperation with Globale Seniorer, The Baltic Sea NGO Network, The International Committee of The Danish Social-Liberal Party and The Danish UN-Association.
